Not long ago, I was with my kids at the movie theatre in Woodbury MN. We got there early so we could claim decent seats.rnrnThe obligatory movie
trivia was on the screen, we ignored it, and the kids and I started to jib-jab. We didn't jib-jab for long, because I heard something familiar. It
was music. It was Avian, it was selections from "From the Depths of Time". After a few short moments of music, Lance King and Yan
Leviathan from the band were on the screen talking about Avian's upcoming release, "Ashes and Madness".rnrnWhen I got home, I hopped on my
MAC, surfed the web, found "Ashes and Madness" and purchased it. There are few things sweeter than the fresh smell of a new CD.rnrnWhy do I
yammer on and on about going to movies and shopping online? Because, if you don't pay attention, the good stuff will pass you by and you will be
forced to settle for the mediocrity that has become common place. "Ashes and Madness" is the good stuff that you shouldn't let pass
by.rnrnThis CD rocks. It has been in heavy rotation on my iPod since I purchased it. It is melodic power metal that is sure to satisfy. Yan
Leviathan's song writing has matured and the music is more epic than their first release, "From the Depths of Time". Lance King's vocals
soar over the melodies. What really makes the Cd great is Bill Hudson's guitar solos and the driving rhythm by drummer Jerry Babcock.rnrnThe songs
that standout for me are "The Lost and Forsaken", "Into the Otherside", "All the King's Horses", and "Time and
Space Part II". The closing song, "Time and Space Part II" is probably my fave because it is so epic.rnrn"Ashes and Madness"
has a nice pace to it. My only criticism is that I wish there were some faster songs on it. Some of the songs do gallup in parts, but I want to be
able to get whiplash from a double-bass drum and chugging/shredding guitars.rnrn"Ashes and Madness" is a great release. It is a must for
your collection.
